Academic and Study Skills

A dictionary, thesaurus, atlas, and calculator are just a few of the many resources students should have readily available to support their academic success. Developing additional study skills and effective work habits will also help them achieve their educational goals, online and onsite.

One way to further fortify areas of strength and improve areas of weakness is to determine the student’s preferred learning style. Understanding the best way to learn will help students study more effectively and ask the right types of questions to increase their comprehension of the material being taught. This can lead to higher test scores and improved grades! Click on the link to the right to complete the VARK guide to learning styles. This Learning Styles Assessment is also a part of every NUVHS course and allows students and instructors to discuss learning styles in the context of each specific course.

NUVHS students also have full access to National University's Writing and Math Centers. The Writing Center offers individual tutoring sessions online, by phone, or at a National University campus. For a complete list of campuses that offer on-site tutoring please visit the National University Writing Center and Math Center pages on the National University website, www.nu.edu. Additional links to the right of this page are helpful in preparing for exams, managing your time and succeeding in online courses.

If you know of a great study skills site you would like to submit to us for inclusion on this page, please feel free to contact us at info@nuvhs.org.
