NUVHS approved as Candidate for Accreditation by WASC

February 18, 2005

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Accrediting Commission for Schools approved National University Virtual High School (NUVHS) as a candidate for accreditation on February 3, 2005.

Dr. David Brown, Executive Director, and Dr. Warren Stephenson, Coordinator of Visiting Teams for WASC, visited NUVHS for the initial candidacy visit on October 6, 2004.  The Accrediting Commission for Schools evaluated the NUVHS application, along with the action report prepared by Drs. Brown and Stephenson, at the Commission's winter meeting.  NUVHS received notification of its approval for candidacy status on February 10, 2005.

According to the notification letter, the term of candidacy for NUVHS will run through June 30, 2007.  During this time period, NUVHS is expected to prepare a self-study and accreditation review to demonstrate the school's compliance with WASC criteria, as well as to show evidence of a focus on student achievement and continuous improvement.  The notification letter noted that most schools complete the self-study during the final year of candidacy.  Further, the Commission recommends that the school appoint key staff to serve as members of visiting committees for other schools.  NUVHS plans to participate fully in this process.

NUVHS is proud to be accepted as a candidate for accreditation by the WASC Accrediting Commission for Schools.
